Overview

Joanne Emerson Taqi is a partner in the Global Project Development and Finance team based in Sydney. Joanne is also the head of the Firm's global water industry group.

Joanne focuses on project structuring and the review, development, drafting and negotiation of a wide range of construction and project agreements. Joanne regularly advises on and negotiates complex supply, construction and procurement documents on behalf of government procurers, developers, sponsors and lenders (including MDBs and ECAs) in the infrastructure (including water, waste, digital and social), mining, energy adjacent (including district energy and petrochems), and renewable (including solar and offshore wind sectors) sectors. Joanne also advises on project strategy and structuring, tendering, bid evaluation and bidder negotiation for government and private sector lenders and sponsors.

Joanne previously the infrastructure team for Norton Rose Fulbright in the Middle East. She has over 25 years' experience overall, including 18 years of experience working on projects in the Middle East and in the Asia-Pacific and CIS regions.

Joanne is recognised as a leading practitioner in Construction and Infrastructure by Best Lawyers and has been a named individual in Chambers and Legal 500 independent legal directories. Joanne's experience includes advising:

  • Tribe Infrastructure on its successful bid to the NSW Regional Growth Development Corporation in relation to the waste to energy project at the Parkes Special Activation Precinct.
  • South East Water (a part of the Victorian Government) in relation to a A$1.5 billion 10-year capital works program as part of a new integrated capital works planning and delivery model.
  • A multinational technology corporation on the design, construction and operation of data centre projects throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
  • The Government of Uzbekistan (with Asian Development Bank) in relation to district heating PPP projects.
  • Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners in relation to the development, financing and divestment of the US$3.1 billion Fengmiao 1 offshore wind project in Taiwan.
  • Downer in relation to the rollingstock arrangements for the Queensland Training Manufacturing Program.
  • KEPCO, EDF and Kyushu in relation to the US$3.6 billion Abu Dhabi subsea power transmission system PPP project.
